What if you didn’t have to worry about saying yes? What if you said yes more often than you do now? Does this thought scare you? When was the last time you said yes and it turned out to be amazing that you were glad you didn’t say no to it? If you can recall that time and the way you felt, I encourage you to take out your journal or notes on your phone and write about it. Stay with that feeling and try to remember what made you say yes without any fear.
Life is a series of beautiful experiences, but because we tend to get afraid, we end up saying no to most of these experiences only to regret having said no later. Fear plays such a contributing factor in our lives. Especially when it comes to our dreams and hopes. We have these big beautiful dreams but fear gets in the way. The ‘What ifs’ tend to get in the way.
Is it possible for us to be entirely unafraid of our desires?
Is it possible for us to ask without worrying about our wishes?
If fear wasn’t a factor how would our reaction or behaviour towards our wishes be?
Maybe we would feel happier and more excited about these wishes. Maybe we would not worry at all about how and when they show up because we knew they would come to pass. We would feel at ease and ask for bigger and better things based on our values and quality of life. Uncertainty would be a kinder experience than a fearful one.
There is an ever-growing contradiction within us, between what our heart desires and what our mind tends to reflect. And it is this contradiction that causes so much discomfort and anxiety within us, in every part of our body. And we eventually end up saying no more often than we’d like to. This is the reason why our dreams don’t turn into plans and goals. We take a step back and allow fear to take over.
So, where does this fear tend to come from? From our failures and unfulfilled expectations for the most part of it. The belief is that because it didn’t happen once, it will never happen again. We failed once, we embarrassed ourselves and this experience has left a brutal mark that will always trigger us. So, we pull back. We stay away. We allow fear to decide for us. We let past experiences write our destiny.
It's easier said than done to say that we shouldn’t allow those experiences to decide for us now. We shouldn’t allow those failures to hold us back. But, if there is one thing, we can take charge of in our lives and truly take control of, is our own thought process. Our ability to change the way we think and the way we perceive ourselves and our lives. It’s a process that has its challenges but once we get started, the fog clears out and the fear is left way behind. We clear the space for newer experiences and allow ourselves to say yes more and more. Yes, to all our wishes and dreams.
I hope you allow the fog in your mind and heart to clear out, so you may say yes to yourself and your life. I hope this reminds you that even though fear surfaces, there can be moments in your life when you can be entirely unafraid!
