It’s understandable to want to pay heed to what others say about you. It’s understandable when you are at a crossroads between what’s right and what’s wrong. So, you start to deceive yourself. You start putting up a front that sooner becomes a part of who you are and when those layers wash off, there in that raw reflection, you fail to recognize who you truly are. Or perhaps you do recognize but you cannot accept who you are underneath all those layers.
Most of the time we aren’t really honest with ourselves. We pretend. We’re good at hiding. It’s okay if we want things to be private with people and we wish to not let everyone know what we think and feel but, the problem usually arises when we start being dishonest with ourselves as well. We tend to deceive ourselves even for basic desires and from the basic truth. This leads to nothing but unnecessary confusion.
There is nothing ordinary about you. The only person who truly has all the right to react to any judgment or criticism about you is you. Those who couldn’t accept you for who you are and led you to become this version of yourself that you no longer recognize, they didn’t know it all. Perhaps they are still hiding under their own layers of deception and confusion. Perhaps they aren’t the right kind of people for you.
When you’re tender and kinder to yourself, you don’t have to try so hard. You don’t have to consciously try to fit in. You can be who you are and allow the right people to come to you in the most beautiful way possible.
If you were accepted just the way you are and would like to be, how do you think you would feel? How would the world look to you? How would you then show up each day?
Maybe it’s not about changing everything about you, maybe you can upgrade the things that you aren’t able to accept about yourself. Maybe a little modification is better than a reflection that you don’t recognize at all.
